    Wink Confessions of a Micromajig

    Bud says "Hey micromajig remember that game the spoils that disappeared for a few years? Yea well they are releasing a new core set and rotating out cards. Michael wants to know what we think about that."

    Micromajig says "All the cards are being rotated out already are you nuts?"

    Bud says "Well not really, maybe, sorta. Ok at least 85 cards are being rotated"

    Micromajig says "Which 85?"

    Bud says "They didn't tell us. There's this ummm.... puzzle."

    Micromajig says "Well it would be so silly to ask a community what it thinks about a decision without telling us the details. you know such as which cards."

    Bud says "Micro, I think he wants to feel the pulse of the community. He wants to know what the community thinks about rotating sets."

    Micromajig says "Yea well that's kind of a open philosophical question parading around in an enigma isn't it? And look above you numb nuts. Let me summarize "the pulse" for you. If it's broken they don't want it. If it's not broken, they want it. Wow what a pulse!"

    Bud says "My nuts aren't numb."

    Micromajig says "...." (faceplate palmplate)

    Bud goes back to listening to his Ipod.

    @Asuryan: What I'm talking about in terms of window is disrupting the activation of the initial RI:s. If you allow the OTK player to play them and get enough resources, it becomes very hard to handle, as he can tech cards to prevent you from destroying the Cantankerous Clockwork (Hidden Sandwich, Tac Vac, ABZ) and since the Clockwork will be up and bout round 3, you most often only have tactics to rely on.

    I'm not saying it's unbeatable. I haven't yet lost against it using a mono Arcanist build, but I feel it dictates too much what kind of answers you need in your deck.

    Then again, it may be that our player group is still too green and that we will learn in time, but until then the Research OTK wins every tournament it plays in and people with limited access to cards or players that are not that experienced have close to no chance.

    I've seen people trying to use Incriminating Photograph or Department of Rejections, but these are nullified through Inhibit just before the combo. I've seen Rogue decks trying to Heist, Milkshake or Essence the combo pieces, but with Dark Awakening and Writ of Reclamation, it only buys a few turns. I've seen Warlord decks using Sadistic Colonel to halt it, only to see him die to Acidic Phlegm (same goes for Ferrous Ferret who otherwise would hijack the Shoes of Teleportation, preventing the OTK). It's a struggle, and while I try to help players adapt a bit, it's hard unless you want to force them to completely change their decks. The only decktype apart from mono Arcanist that seems to have a chance is an aggro Warlord, but that of course requires the OTK player not to get a "turn 2" starting hand.

    If you could give me some insight as to what players in your area have come up with, perhaps I can forward those ideas to our player group and our upcoming tournaments will be a bit more exciting in the future.

    Sorry for the thread hijack, but it's a bit related depending on Research Investment being or not being in 2nd Edition... ^_^

    Exclamation The final word.......

    Thank you to all of you that has sent me emails and/or replied to the thread here. All has been read and weighed and there were many good arguments - and we have reached a decision!

    <dum-dum-dah>

    <dramatic pause>

    All cards stay and no cards are rotated out. We decided that it was indeed too soon to rotate out cards. We will at one point in the future perhaps want to rotate, but it is not this day! And if we do then we promise that it wil be dones so that there will be multiple formats, so there will always be a format where you can play with the old cards

    As most of you agreed with the decision tipping this way, then I am sure that it will be well received. But I also hope that the few that thought it would be good to rotate already now, will be able to embrace the decision anyway.

    Anyways, I wish you all a lot of fun in the upcoming events
    Michael
