    Default New Tournament Rules Posted

Hey everyone. I've just updated the tournament rules. You'll notice a restoration of some of the old sections as well as an important difference in how to handle matches running out of time in the playoffs. For your convenience, here's the important section:

NOTE: I've since edited this section. See the entire thread for details!

    Running the Playoffs
The playoffs of a tournament should always be single elimination. Instead of 45 minute rounds, we strongly recommend 60 minutes. If time expires during the playoffs, follow the normal end of round procedure, but instead of an unfinished game being a draw, the player whose faction has had the highest total damage inflicted to it this game loses. If both Factions have had an equal amount of damage inflicted to them this game, a coin flip administered by the Head Judge determines the match winner. To avoid ambiguity, the damage inflicted to each player’s faction during a playoff game should be carefully tracked by a judge or any trustworthy volunteer appointed by the Head Judge.

So... if we're both playing The Tournament Faction and currently at 15, if I play a card that gains influence, the game is determined by a coin flip. Is that correct?

I'm not sure I follow the question. Also, there's not enough information there. The metric is total damage inflicted, not (starting influence - current influence).

Yeah, I didn't include enough information. My bad, but you did answer my question.

If both players have been dealt 10 damage, and player 1 gains 4 Influence, the game will be determined by a coin toss.

Personally, I think that's the right call.

By the way, the wording for this doesn't have to be final. While the idea will stand, the way it's implemented can be tweaked with your feedback. For example, perhaps I should change the wording from damage to loss of influence. That's actually the intent.

Total Influence loss is preferable to total damage inflicted just to stop any ambiguity regarding burn.

I really hope this rule ends up being reversed in the future. I'm not saying that the former way of "highest influence total wins" is better, I just don't think this actually solves anything.
