Thread: Mono Trade Decks

    Default Mono Trade Decks

In my opinion, Spoils cards do not offer enough of an advantage for Mono trade decks. Even if a deck is largely one trade, it is usually beneficial for the deck's creator to splash in another trade. Perhaps should create some cards that would only be allowed in a Mono trade deck. Perhaps some sort of rules text that says "Destroy this card if there are resources that aren't face down or provide only decpetion".

Similarly, why are there no spoils cards that have effects that interact with the other trades? A "Robber's Attorney" card for instance could be a greed lawyer that gets +1 strength and +1 life for each thief card on the controller's side of the field.

Cards that require you to be mono trade seem like they'd make sense in Seed. Cards that have interactions with other trades feels like the focus of a whole set.

That's a good point. Let me just clarify that I am not necessarily suggesting that these cards come out in the next part, just somehwere down the road.

So I have yet to get any seed cause the shops in PA stopped sellling spoils right before it came out, so we just have massive amounts of the first 2.

Right now I run mono elitism as my favorite with sproing/ship as my #1 win condition, so when we make decks mono seems to work, is there a giant change in that when it goes to seed?
Winner of $250 sealed tournament, 10/14/06.

If each player has 4 yoinks in their hand, and enough resources to play them, they could have a tug of war.

Not really, and it's not that all mono-trade decks are bad, its just beneficial to most decks to have two trade decks, or at least splash in another color. Even in your mono-elitism deck, you may find that the deck is stonger if you start 1 elitism and 1 resource of another trade, and then only play elitism in your deck. I think should create cards that can only be played in decks of one trade.

I think maybe that if you had cards that could only be played in mono decks, you'd cripple the Sealed and Draft formats. I think what may be more feasible is to make cards that favour being in mono decks, such as, "This character gains 1 life for each <Resource> you control." Or items with similar effects.
Currently building a Gearsmith/Banker deck. Any suggestions? Feel free to let me know.

Also, I'm a card-making fanatic. Feel free to check out any of the cards I post and post how stupid or cool they are. Constructive criticism works!

Mono trade decks are not underpowered by any means.

There are 2 top tier decks that are mono, that I can think of right now.

Also even if it were underpowered, who cares. Multi color decks are far more interesting.

is a mono banker deck possible? I just recently fell in love with this game and am really liking what ive seen for banker but it looks like they lack win conditions, but this may be because ive never played banker yet, just liking what ive seen is it possible?

I have seen mono Bankers win using a stall mechanic, Blatherscythe recursion and some covert characters to deal damage.
