Thread: Flight

    Default Flight

Just wondering has any one, including Josh, thought about putting a flight mechanic on future cards. It would be more powerful than covert, i do like covert's double edge sword idea, but flight would be nice.

    flight
characters with flight can't be blocked except by characters with flight.
characters with flight can block character's without flight.

Just wondering if this was ever an idea in R&D

There is a trait "covert" which works more or less the same.

i know covert.. but flight would work different. the diff is flight can block non-flight.. covert can't block non-covert

    Well, that's right.

I'd say if something like this were to be attempted it'd be more along the lines of an ability that let the character lose Covert until end of turn. As if you start printing multiple evasion mechanics you get a bunch of functionally similar but just different enough to be confusing keywords/rules (ie. flight, shadow, horsemanship, etc.)

I agree. While flight sounds cool, it is the exact same function as covert with a different word. Basically, it's just another version of covert. If you are going to develop something like flight, you'd want to be a bit more creative with it and make it do something different, I would imagine. Then of course, let's say you have a barduse that has flight in the new set... It wouldn't make sense for all of the old dragons who are literally flying in their art to not be capable of blocking...

You get the picture. Less is in most cases more.

well flight isn't the exact same.. its actually more powerful than covert. covert can't block non covert, but flight can block non flight

For this kind of thing, it would probably be better to add a bit to the card's rules text, after Covert. "This character may block parties that aren't Covert", or something similar. The flight mechanic you're talking about is identical to the Magic one, and Magic has plenty of examples where multiple evasion mechanics can be a real pain in the ass. I know when I build decks, I often tend not to take Flight into account - except defensively with spiders, but I do take into account things like Fear, Shadow, and the Landwalk abilities.

I don't like the idea really.

I think it's nice as it is with only ONE evade ability unlike in "A certain other TCG" where there sometimes are so many evade abilities you cannot possibly cover them all.

I think what makes The Spoils such a nice and superior TCG is that you really don't have that many different things to keep an eye on and it's fairly easy to build a deck that can handle most things in a certain way. THAT! Is awesome.

I'm not saying there are not many options since I love how many different decks you can build and how surprisingly effective they can be making every match enjoyable enough!

I'm just saying, that I would not want to sit in the future building a deck to suddenly realize "Hey! I haven't put any cards in against a strong FLYING deck but I can sure handle covert....!" Get my point?

I dont think flight "fits" with The Spoils at all.

There are so many dragon cards already and things that could possibly fly, it wouldn't make sense to add flight into this game.

Also flight is kind of a cheap mechanic.

I personally do not find flight fun in magic and I really do not think it would be fun in this game either.

And on that note, this game is not magic, and no one wants it to be.
