Thread: Conscription Doctrine

  1. Default Conscription Doctrine

While Conscription Doctrine is in play, all of your characters cost one less to play, to a minimum of 0 and come in to play with 1 token.

Your characters lose one strength for each token on them.

This needs to be improved. . . Basically, anything you could play for free, becomes meaningless, running any of the 'Gets Bigger' Warlord characters are completely invalidated as playable in the deck running this. In general. . . it is was too weak to be 4 Thresh.

it would be better at 3 thresh but this card is great IMO. you play a bunch of cheap critters and then play voidal poisoning and go find your pump spell and win the game. it is a creative idea and i think it has potential, it might work better in a different color though. tokens on characters has always been a rogue or obsession kind of thing. if you move it to obsession you would be able to keep the 4 threshold.

Tokens in warlord have a presedent, but yeah, I can DEFINITELY see this card in Arcanist, or even Banker with the investment characters!

I suppose it could work in a different form with other trades, but I was going for a thematic card. How about this?

So, flavor-wise what's the metaphor? I'm pretty sure I get it, but I want to be clear. You're saying that people are forced into servitude...so you get a lot of them, but they are demoralized from it so they lose strength? That's interesting.

The concept is pretty good, and is very open for abuse. Anything that can reduce a card's cost to 0 can be broken. We'll have to decide we want to leave that possibility, or if we want to put in some measures to keep this card from being a combo engine in the future.

I'd also say, the flavor of this card *might* not be quite right for Seed. This idea may need to wait until a future set when we show the brutality of the Warlords more, instead of their heroism. But we may be able to find a way to do this.

Well I'd just watched Enemy at the Gates (the flavor text is from the opening scene). The theme is modeled after the Russian's strategy during WWII: throw wave after wave of men (manpower was their most abundant resource) at the enemy, poorly-trained, ill-equipped men.

I figured that Warlord (at least for 1st edition) was ruthless enough to relish this doctrine.

Clearly this is WW2 Stalingrad. One soldier gets a rifle, the next soldier gets the clip that goes with it.

Given the flavor of Seed (specifically the falling from grace of Warlords) I could see this being a 1-off type card, like Elzibeth, showing the slow decay of their morality.

Alternatively we could theme it the opposite way...

While this card is in play you must pay an additional 2 to play characters.
While this card is in play your attacking characters may assign their battle damage to the target of their attack instead of the blocking party.
