The triggered effects happen at the same time, so if you don't get any gear that adds to life, it dies.
503.4 Sometimes multiple triggers happen at the same time. If all the triggers originated from cards under one player’s control, that player decides the order in which they happen. However, if the triggers originated from cards under both players’ control then the active player decides the order in which they happen.
503.4a The order does not have to be decided ahead of time; the deciding player lets one trigger happen, then afterwards decides which trigger happens next.

So if you had watchtower tigger first, do you still search for a gear card and then place it in to the discard pile?

Can't you always chose to "fail to find"?

But most of the time, your gear would add to life - eg Craghammer, Luteoderm Prototype, that sort of thing.
Since you get to choose what order the triggers happen in, you could add an LP before the Watchtower triggers, keeping your elf alive, correct? I think that's the most common scenario here.
That's right, assuming that it's your turn. If triggers are controlled by both players the active player gets to choose resolution order. You could search for, and attach, some +life piece of gear and save the elf.Originally Posted by rmgraci

The "active player" issue also arises when a player uses Preponderant Craftsman's CREATE ability, or plays a character off a Degenerate Molestation during the opponent's turn.
If you have Watchtower in play and I use Degenerate Molestation at the end of your turn, then I play Toolbox Elf for free (using DM) the active player (YOU) get to choose which order the triggers resolve. Obviously, you would choose to have the Watchtower deal the character one damage before the "search a gear" trigger resolves.
Another situation is when a player has a Master Mud Whisperer in play and the opponent has a Drill Garrision with five Rage threshold. The active player would choose to allow the Master Mud Whisperer's trigger to resolve (restoring all characters during opponent's start of turn), then could pick a character using Drill Garrision's trigger to deplete the character.
I hope those specific scenarios help explain what is supposed to happen given current card interactions.
Good luck!
Ever wonder why people say "Penny for your thoughts" and you always want to throw in your "two cents?"
