Thread: Sept 14th Seed preview: Non-Staple Resource (No Foolin'!)

Is that guy turning into a dragon? That's crazy! I thought mixing pirates and maus was bad enough, but now arcanists are playing with Dragon Juice. Oh, what's the world becoming, with all these jumbled trades?!?

I think those horned ladies might be goddess-like muses of some sort that disappeared between Seed and present Clockman. Huh. The artwork is crazy, and I'm glad it's only threshold accel. Although, it's not going to help rainbow decks much, since even though you need less resources for the trade, there's less cards to get, so you'll draw it less often. Couple that with the need for search, and you'll spend 8 cards to get 8 thresh icons, which isn't much of an improvement. Monos should definitely see a boost with these, though.

And nice naming: Neurosis. I can't wait to see what the other ones are.
Pretend something of relevance is here.

I'm imagining one of the new factions (probably banker) will allow you to start with 1 staple and 1 resource of any kind...just a guess though.

I didnt think factions were going to be affiliated with trades. Are they? If that faction comes out, it will need a big draw back too not be broken

They have as much as indicated that they will be related to the trades in some way.

I hope the new factions will make more monodecks viable . I am also interested in seeing how choice of one of the new starting factions that is linked to a trade will affect decks or two or more trades.

It was also stated that the new factions will not be legal in constructed events. Introducing new factions to the constructed scene would just beg for people to break the game. I'm still curious to hear how the new factions will be released. Will they be in the pre-con decks? Will they be randomly inserted in booster packs? Will they be ultra rares that only a few people will have at any tournament? Will they be mailed randomly to the third and fifth person listed in every telephone book in the world? Will they... you get my drift.

I bet the new factions come out in the precon decks, especially if they aren't going to be tournament legal. There are some cards that let you search for any card in your deck, but it seems like a waste to use on a resource. I don't forsee hoarding these cards. Since they aren't staples you can only have up to 4 in a deck. It's just like any rare. It will be good in some decks, but it's not a must have.

I'm a new player, so I'm not sure how everyone can tell that this resource will only provide Threshold.

What am I overlooking? It seems to me that this should provide 2 Arcanist 'mana' (sorry, I don't know the right word) for a deck.

Like FromtheShadows said, it's only threshold acceleration. As for 4-5 colour decks, they may be pretty similar to the five colour deck we have right now.

It will be nice to get some higher threshold lower costs out early, but a lot of the high threshold cards also have high cost.

I expect to see it balance out pretty well within the set itself because it was said that the mechanic found on circumspect hijacker will be the most prevalent mechanic in this Seed set, so everyone will have it.

Off topic, but that is a crazy record with your deck, Knightmare. Didn't get to play at the constructed event at Gen con?
You have some good points there, I have a tendancy to cry doom. Id just hate to see the MTG type downward spiral...... things get more broken and more rare till your spending 500 bucks a set just getting what you need to stay competetive...... I quit magic when my best deck cycled out and relized it was going to cost me a mindblowing $570 bucks to keep it competetive with the stuff from the newest set. Believe me when I say that Spoils has had me hooked and MTG free since beta.

You cant tell me though that these Resources arent going to cost at least $20-$25 each once they come out.

On the off topic subject of my deck. Yeah its record is pretty good, but its not broken my any means, its one of those decks that has a lot of neat little tech tricks that people dont see comming. 90% of the reason the deck has worked so well is that it does alot of stuff on the opponents turn to mess with what they are trying to do. That and .........

(i dont want to sound boastfull here so please take this with a grain of salt)

Ive become REALLY good at bluffing by using different manerisms and such to throw off my opponent, that and Im really REALLY lucky with discarding cards, my buddies have joked about me having a "mutant discard sense" since our Yugioh and Magic days.

Its not as good a deck as it seems. Dont get me wrong its my baby and I love it lol but ive been lucky so far.

Its really pretty simple when you examine it. In our game the "mana symbols" as you call them, are not what you pay into the card to play it.

The symbols are always your threshold. If the card shows 3 symbols (whether its providing or costing) that means its threshold value. If the card said :

"This card provides and 2 "

Then you would be correct but since it only says it provides , that means threshold only.

If it gave you two resources it would be broken beyond compare lol.

The only way I could see a resource providing two and not be the worst idea ever would be if you had to discard a card from you hand and pay atleast 8-10 life. Even then it would make you SOOO fast.
