Thread: best turn zero play?

  1. Default best turn zero play?

What do you think is the best "turn zero" play right now?

My vote would be for Obssesive Compulsion, because it gets you 2 cards ahead, assuming you are going second and they played a resource, and can also help smooth out draws by getting you an extra resource or early creature drop in case the mulligan didn't help.

Keen Stratagem, Obsessive Compulsion and Late Addition are great 1 cost turn 0 cards. Keen gets those extra ressources out of your deck, so great both early game for your start and late game since you're thinning out your deck. Obsessive Compulsion is this game's Brainstorm from MTG, and while not as good as that card, this one is still insane. Set up up to your next 3 draws, or if you don't like em, get rid of em. Late Addition just allows you cycle on turn 0, but I hear 1 cost cycling is good.

I personally think Orgy Den Smoke Out is a really good turn 0 play. Mainly because your opponent has to discard a card at random from their hand, which after they've mulliganed to get a hand their comfortable with, can be quite annoying. Plus, with the mill 2 cards ability, you're already 3/4 of the way to playing a Swashbuckler.

    a.k.a.:
    turn 0: Smoke Out
    turn 1: Card Counter/Defenestrate/Tremor Engine/Heist Planner
turn 2: Swashbuckler. 4/4/4 on turn 2 is pretty solid

It also helps guarantee that you'll have a better chance of being abe to Scrag your opponent's bigger guys, eventually.

I like Orgy Den Smoke out as well the synergy it gives rogue is very nice. I would also put any form of removal that kills a creature up there too.

Default Swashbuckler vs Garbage Man/Writ of Reclaimation

This is a little tangential, but what are people's thoughts on the playability of Swashbuckler since the addition of Garbage Man & Writ of Reclaimation. I love SB 4/4/4 for 4, but a Writ of Reclaimation in response to SB being played forces the effective discard pile requirement to 10 (anything less will allow your opponent to force you to discard SB).

That's a pretty good point there, but I don't feel SB loses that much of playability. 10 cards isn't a hard thing to when you're playing rogue, now if you ad the cards they played, and maybe a splash of arcanist, easy done.

Orgy Den Smoke Out is a great turn zero play, by the way. I own my 4 copies with printing mishaps!

Hmm why not just mulligan the Late Addition away when you drew it in the starting 9?

If you drew it post-mulligan, I think it is still a waste of a trick to simply discard it for a card, unless you have a really good 1-drop character in your hand.

I agree. Might as well just mill it so you have as much knowledge as possible.
