Thread: First picks -- type

It really does swing. Tide is right its a great skill to learn to cut off players and set yourself up. If you can figure out what everyone around the table is drafting you can put yourself in a good position. Factions to go for really swing I see banker passed over a lot. Gearsmith is good and they have some bombs that can really make a deck like one time I drafted nodes and got A Series of Tubes passed to me!

I'm not sure what to pick first... usually I take powerful creatures, but if I see shriever attack... or forget in a pack without good creatures... it's not an absolute picking. I pick the best CARD I see first pick, first pack, and then work from there, filling out with creatures and tactics as I see fit.

    Default Destruction!

I actually go for any character destruction first, simply because I know if I don't grab it first, I'm going to forget to grab it later. I usually end up with the leftover characters, but I always have the lasting power to be able to play them effectively.
If I were to think, the world would explode.

    Now what could that mean?

Well, the one draft I've gotten a chance to participate in, my first pick was Tactician Vacation. But of the one thresh cards in the pack, it was the best, and I wasn't going to lock myself to any trade on first pick. ((Had a Menacing Mauler and Rudo Mangod passed to me in packs three and four, so I guess taking the Vacation was a good idea.))

    Um... you mean

BRESC? Bomb, removal, Evasion, Speed, Character? In spoils, just about anything is agro as over half the cards can be played turn 1/2. And the only evasion thus far is covert.

my favorite first picks tend to be bulldozer, covert spider 3 drop, and rogue cards like rapine, face in the crowd, dock sentinel, catastrophic betrayel, carnival king ... in that order

I love a first pick brummegen jewelry. I'll take any first pick removel but the jewelry is the prettiest.

My first picks usually end up being characters. Characters with removal slotted in are the best... that's you Flaming Barduse. :3
Brummagem Jewelry + Erotic Assassin FTW.

I have had to learn the hard way that The Spoils limited is a little different than your average TCG. Normally in other games such as Magic, I would focus on removal unless there was an obvious bomb in the pack; however, Creatures far out way removal in this game hands down. In my last limited tourney I had 12 removal spells, and was still over run by silly characters that were not even good. My creature quality was poor because I focused on removal. Had I of drafted good quality creatures to begin with things would have been different.

This is not to say that tactics are completely bad in limited. As someone mentioned before shriver attack and other tactics are especially good in this format. I would also never advise to never draft removal for it is one of your few answers against Samuel Grissy. Just be smart.
