Thread: Targetting Cards Being Played... with Items?

  1. Question responding to "being played"

I have a question in regards to responding to a card being played. I know that I can respond to my opponent targeting my character before his action hits it (for example: my sniper is blocking, then he plays target practice or something, and in response I snipe his atttacking character for one before sniper is destroyed). But I was wondering if my opponent plays something like flaming barbuse, and pays all the cost(including picking characters), then I choose to respond by playing something like the arcanist's Napiform item and target the Barbuse.

Would that be legally since part of the cost is picking a character and it is being played at the moment, or would I have to wait til it's in play to target the Barbuse at all? Thanks in advance for helping me with this issue.
    My deck isn't very good...
    But are you winning?
I don't have my usual favorites in this deck...
    But are you winning?
I'm totally unfamiliar with my cards...

Two problems here. 1. The target isn't in play 2. Items cannot be played 'fast.' Only tactics and abilities may be played in response to something.

Ok, that makes more sense as a reason why I couldn't play the item on the Barbuse. Still a bit "ify" on not targetting a character that is "being played" though...but if it's agreed that it can't be targeted while being played then I will concede to that ruling. Thanks for the quick reply LoS!!!

No problem. As for whether cards being played can be targeted, I don't have the rules quote right here, but the rules state that unless a card specifies otherwise, if it says to 'pick a card' it means a card that is in play. 'Being played' is as different an area from in play as is the discard pile or the hand. The areas of play are also defined in the rules.
