Thread: Hoarding Open Beta?

Actually there are some really valid points for the terrible "loss" of cards. If everyone hoards them in mint condition the demand for such cards would really suck thus keeping the values low.

Unless the is able to gain a lot of new players that are all seeking OB cards... Even then, once they're worth something would you really sell them? Or would you simply brag about how much they're "worth"?

I'd sell mine to raise $$ to buy newly released sets. That's what I'm doing now with my old MtG. I'm selling it off on ebay and to retailers so I can get The Spoils.
Home at last!!!! Strangely enough though, I have even less time to myself than I did in Kuwait!

This is a great topic. I have a feeling that The Spoils will rule the gaming world some day and yes, our open beta cards will be worth some $$. It all depends on how many "hidden" or "stored" boxes are released at one time. If they seep out here and there and the demand continues to grow then we shouldn't see any problems with the cards losing value. I imagine that is the way it will go as there will be those who are ready to sell as soon as they see a bit of profit. Then there will be others who "just need the money" and will sell. Only time will tell on this one all. By the way my beta collection is almost a complete playset (see my trade list for what I need) and one sealed box.
May we all live as long as we want...and never want as long as we live!

I've managed to pick up 6 OB boxes. 5 are sealed. One is open but the packs are unopened. Mainly the reason is that I see how much a single early unopened MtG booster can go for and I don't want to look back on The Spoils with the same regret I do for all the MtG packs I could have not opened. I don't expect a Spoils booster to approach the value of a beta MtG booster or anything, but even if they become worth double their current value, I'll be happy. Someday...

Right so all you folks hoarding them, destory half of the ones you are hoarding to make the other half more than twice as valuable. If you don't you are just shooting us all in the foot....lol. You can actually still pick up Beta Boxes off E-bay relatively cheap.

very true. But I think give it a year and they will be doubel the price if the game keeps taking off.

Open them up and use em!! That's what they are meant for!

Here's how I look at it:

I can get two beta boxes (480 cards) and all the resources I will ever need (315 cards) (and don't forget the shiny faction cards too!) for $75 on ebay. That's about the price of two first edition booster boxes but that only gets you 312 cards. Save yourself some money by buying beta cards to use now! Go to work and invest some money to retire on!

My local card shop has an unopened pack of Magic beta cards trying to sell for $750. so that pack of cards is at least 18 years old. Nobody has bought it yet, so what is it really worth? Nothing. They aren't being played, heck, it could have a slab of blank cardboard in there!

Rather than stuffing a box of cards in my closet, waiting for their price to mature, I'll be going to work.

Your retailer needs to find this thing we call e-bay then . And that pack is worth however much someone is willing to pay for it in his select market. If he were to broaden his market (e-bay or other sites) he may find it goes quickly or he may need to drop the price a little. And dangit to whoever outbid me on those two beta boxes...I got beat with 76.00$.....sadness...cause that was a major steal.
