Thread: Hoarding Open Beta?

    Default Hoarding Open Beta?

So how much Open Beta has everyone collected?

More and more it seems people are reluctant to trade their black and white cards.

I've got about ~250 opened cards, ~50 rares, and *oh yeah* 1 unopened pack of it.

Looking to get some more from ebay though.

I plan on keeping mine for the sheer novelty of three years from now, playing a contemporary game with someone and throwing down a BETA version of a now reprinted card.

I'm sort of nostalgic for that sort of thing. Though having seen the new Ferret, I'm definitely going to be playing with the new version.

I believe the Beta cards (at lest the best of them) will be woth some nice $$ in a year or three. I was lucky enough to be at GenConIndy helping out , running and participating in OB pretty much weekly (and all of this was with my wife too so we got to "double dip"). After many many attempts at getting ebay to remove "not intended for sale" items during Open Beta (none of which worked), and after OB was over, I've made an effort to invest in several boxes.
Who knows, maybe they'll pay for my boy's college education if they don't get into the Adacemy!
Home at last!!!! Strangely enough though, I have even less time to myself than I did in Kuwait!

My playset of Beta is in fact my playset. It is the cards I use. I do have one hidden box of Beta left. It is hidden because I had my gal hide it from me so I won't ever be tempted to open it. It worth will depend on the success of spoils and how many of us hang on to our Beta cards and finally the demand of Beta versus current edition of cards for future players (that is also dependent on the success of spoils). I doubt it will ever be like the alpha and beta of MtG because we know what we might have versus the folks that dumped MtG cards all the years ago. Think baseball cards of the 1950's kids used them in bicycle spokes. If they haven't and they all kept them they would not be worth as much. Baseball cards of the 1980-1990's are worth nothing because everyone held onto to them thinking they would be worth something. If you want to make beta worth more, get your hands on as much of it as you can and then start destorying it. It will decrease the overall supply.
