Just to make sure there is no confusion, the token is removed from the game as stated at the bottom of the Micromajig token genrating cards. And if there's any gear on them, it goes to the gear's owner's removed from game area.

So, what if I have a gear (say, Lugubrious Finger Trap) attached to my opponent's character (not a token) and then I bounce it back to his hand? Does the gear go to my hand, or his?

Cards always return to owners hand, discard pile or RMF area.
There are no situations (yet) that allow you to have any of your opponents cards in your hand/discard pile/RMG area.

your card says return to OWNERS hand therefore the gear would follow the same rules since you are the OWNER and go to your hand while the other card is owned by the other player. It dosnt mean it follows the same path as the card it more or less just applies the same action to it.
