Great Article!! Probably the best one you have done thus far
I am usually always for "Patched" over banned. I believe Meat Mountain could have had an easy fix but instead it is a "dead" card essentially when you pull it in a pack as well as E.O.
Well, hopefully Spoils will not have to deal with this issue often....except when they finally decide to change "Ass" and "R.I."

My preferred method is banning. I ke cards to do what they say they do. That said, I think meat could have been errataed as it seems like a reasonable thing to still work after being altered, and still be a fun and maybe good card.
If all goes according to plan, we will be having a similar discussion after this year's gencon constructed champs. More on e.o. Level than meat level, but I would not be surprised if I got some sort of official backlash from my current deck. It's even better than bask bile!

This week I discuss the interesting judge topic of intent vs. text. Be sure to check out the article and discuss your thoughts on the matter!

Good article. I definitely like to rule by card text as it is most objective, but it also poses the problem of overly powerful cards that have slipped through the heavy R&D testing process... In the heat of battle, in the middle of a big tournament, I think ruling by card text should prevail. The intent of the card requires guesswork and that is not as accurate as plain text.
Simple as that. ^_^
Then there is the question of how reprints should work. How about distributing "fixed" cards as "participation" cards in certain tournament formats (like Ass)? That would quickly spread the new wording of the cards to a lot of player groups and make them all understand the new ruling (or intent, or whatever).
That's what I care about - that all players coming to a tournament have the same understanding about the cards they have included in their decks or anticipate their opponents to include. Without that common knowledge, they are just ships passing in the night...

We just became aware that the Blarg comment system was not allowing for new users to register. We have fixed the blarg and you may now register so that you may comment. The registration is VERY simple and only takes a minute. The blarg does NOT use your forum log in, however it is recommended that you use the same user name.
Although a little late, Will's latest Blarg post is live! Check it out to read about new Gen Con strategies and the full events list!
