New Year’s Day is just two weeks away and that means it is almost time for a new New Year’s Resolution or two. Last year I set quite a few goals for myself and hit most of them, which makes me proud, and I’d like to repeat the experience this year.
Instead of informing you all of how many books I’d like to read or what kind of projects I’d like to accomplish, I’m going to share my Spoils related New Year’s Resolutions with you all. Obviously you may not care about what I’m doing, but maybe some of these will inspire you to set Spoils related goals for yourself.
Gen Con 2013
As I have the past three years, I and other Team Hopper members will be attending Gen Con this year with the goal of doing well in Spoils events. Last year I scrubbed out of the Constructed Nationals but finished in the Top 4 of the Limited Nationals, much to the surprise of myself and others.
This year I would like to make the cut to Top X in both National events, assuming there are two again. This is going to be a hard goal to accomplish, though, as there will be at least one new set out by then and possibly a second. This means I will have to re-learn how to draft and make proper sealed decks, plus there will be a wealth of cards to mess around with as far as Constructed goes.
Plus, with the growing player base, the tournament fields are likely to be larger and harder compared to last year.
I have a sleeves problem. As I mentioned in my Holiday Gift Shopping article, I sleeve every deck for every game I play in Spoils sleeves. I love Spoils sleeves so much, in fact, that when Tenacious Games announced they were going out of business, I bought out all of Grasshopper’s Comics’ sleeves inventory because I was worried they would never come back.
Thankfully, though, they came back better than ever when Arcane Tinmen bought The Spoils. My goal for 2013, in regards to Spoils sleeves, is to get EVEN MORE. In all honesty, I think I want to have one long box full of sleeves for each of the four colors on top of what I already have on my decks. If they make more colors, I’ll probably want them too.
I have a problem.
While going through my collection recently, I noticed that I had a lot of foils. I sorted them all and, much to my surprise and delight, I realized that I was close to a set of foils from each expansion except Second Edition.
With my new found foil collection, I’ve decided that I want to finish the sets and have one of every foil card. I’m not too far away from my goal as it is, so expect me to post a trades list soon. I’m making this a New Year’s Resolution, though, as I figure there will be future releases that will add foils to my Needs List.
We’re closing in on the one year anniversary of when I stepped down as Judge of Great Justice and took over managing this Blarg and the written content found on TheSpoils.com. I think it has been a great year for written content for The Spoils, and I hope 2013 will be even better.
I’d love to expand the written content to have more updates so that it isn’t just one Blarg and one homepage article each week. I feel this will help grab new players, keep the website fresh, generate interest, and lead to more discussions in the forums.
If I manage to get any traction in this regard I’ll be sure to keep you updated. In fact, shortly after this Blarg goes live, I’ll put up a poll to see if you all are interested in more written content. If you guys want it then I will do my best to make it happen!
