Let’s Build Something #8: Conventions, Print Runs, and the Community

The past month or two have been absolutely crazy. Both Gen Con and Dragon Con were great successes. Day One of Gen Con resulted in me losing most of my voice. A few weeks later, the same happened at Dragon Con. It was exciting to meet and demo to all of the convention attendees, and even more exciting to see them get excited about the game.
To say these two conventions were successful would be an understatement. We had so many demos going on at Gen Con that we had to commandeer tables from other games! At Dragon Con, we sold out of product on Day Two and had to get an emergency stash that ended up selling out within a few hours.
During all of this Con excitement, we have been completely wrapping up Shade and everything else that will be attached to this release. I am finishing up new A.S.S. promos this week and then sending the 130 cards of Shade and the additional promos off to the printers for the first round of test prints!
In addition to the release of Shade, we will also be releasing a rules update. Nothing major, just some minor clarifications as well as adding new rules for keywords and other exciting additions, including some official multiplayer updates!
We are also getting into our first round of playtest cards for “Be,” the second set in the Unlikely Heroes block. This block is shaping up to be really exciting and will certainly provide plenty of very neat cards for Limited, competitive Constructed, casual play, and multiplayer!
In spite of all of our work we have ahead of us, our greatest challenge is something that you, the players, can help us with. We are on the cusp of something great and need a little of your help to grow this great game!
We have introduced Open R&D, allowing non-pro players a venue to get their ideas etched into The Spoils history forever. Live Group Open R&D sessions, such as the one at Mega Con, have engaged the players. We have even had some player submitted artwork! We have changed our label to encompass the community by being the first Community Card Game. With all of these great things, we are giving you, the players, the power to affect and become a piece of our beloved game.
So become a part of it! We want ever Spoils player to be a part of our Community Card Game, so join the Community! Become an Ambassador. Set up demos at your friendly local gaming store. Add yourself to our Facebook page and share your favorite new artwork or articles with your friends. Join the public chat with your friends and find some online games. You could even volunteer for Cons, assuming you can tear yourself away from playing for a few minutes. Set up organized play at your store! Heck, do whatever it takes to become a part of our wonderful Community and help grow the Micromajig Revolution!
