Rescuing the Spoils #5: New Definition of CCG

You have probably already watched the sneak preview of Seed 3 in the Team Covenant interview with Will Clark, Director of North American Operations, and in this you have probably also seen the orange box that holds all of the new cards. But what the video didn’t show was the back side of said orange box and the secret this holds!
With this in mind, today I want to share with you a secret that we have kept from hidden for a long while now. What is going on is that we have decided that The Spoils shall no longer be a TCG!!!
Now, before everybody chokes on their favorite food, I better hurry up and declare that The Spoils WILL continue in its present form, but now as a CCG.
Many will probably argue that it is pure semantics whether the game is a TCG or a CCG, and in the normal sense of the labels “Trading Card Game” and “Collectible Card Game” they would indeed be right. But there is more to this than just the abbreviation (hold for dramatic pause).
The founders of The Spoils, Tenacious Games, coined the first spin on the standard abbreviation by changing the TCG label to mean “Tournament Card Game.” They did this, in some parts, to illustrate the heavy cash purse they declared for their tournament structure. Even more so, they did this to celebrate the fact that The Spoils, like no other game before it, put the player in the driver’s seat and reduced the element of chance significantly.
It was the combination of these two things that caught the eye of us here at Arcane Tinmen and the reason we took in the game for distribution in the Scandinavian countries. Personally, I immediately loved the game: I loved the stunning and bold art, I loved the grisly humor, and I loved the gameplay. I have played a fair bit of other card games myself and I quickly appreciated the subtle differences that made The Spoils stand above the rest.
All through our management of the game we inherited it has been of utmost importance to me that we keep true to this legacy. Though we will be changing the abbreviation of the game, The Spoils will continue to be the awesome game that we all hold so dear. But with this change we want to pay homage to our golden community that contributes to the success of the game. And to do so we will henceforth refer to The Spoils as a Community Card Game (play heroic fanfare)!
We shall look continue to appreciate input and help from you all; both in the Open R&D section, as volunteers at conventions, and out there demoing and building the local communities. Our goal with The Spoils as a Community Card Game is to involve our player base as much as possible, so be sure to check out our forums and provide any input you have or share some ideas how we can grow the wonderful Spoils community.
