Hello all. Cool idea for a contest!

Just one question - I found one in the puzzle that is an uncommon according to the spoiler list on this web site- "Omnidirectional Patrolmajig". Is this just marked incorrectly in the spoiler list and it's really a common?

The print sheet in the image from the Cartamundi post (image (http://www.thespoils.com/images/Cartamundi/Cartamundi_2nd_Edition_production_start%285%29.JPG )) is 10x10 cards, so 100 total. So, 100 commons, 100 uncommons and 100 rares for 300 cards total, is my guess.

If it IS 100/100/100 then limited is going to have issues. Commons are going to be rampant and you'll have like 4-5 ofs... Also, finding a specific rare is going to be rough.

"Omnidirectional Patrolmajig" is listed as a common on the 2nd edition checklist used for these puzzles.

Chalalite

I'm at 98...so it's looking like there is really only going to be 100 commons, interesting.

I wasn't even sure there were 100 rares between first edition and first edition part 2 so I pulled up the list on spoilsinventory.com. There are 110 by my count, so it looks like only 10 rares are getting cut.

04-19-2011, 11:11 AM
again... you can count Gnat... it's because it's in Swarm of GNATs

so it's 100 or 101..

my guess is 100...

That's because of Ultra Rares. If you opened an ultra rare in Part 2, you were allowed to play it in sealed tourneys etc. Hence, all the Ultra Rares had to be on the deck rego sheet.

I'll miss Spastic Tentacles. (Unless it's also bumped to uncommon.) Losing the Tentacles kills a whole deck (http://www.thespoils.com/spoils/showthread.php?t=5597) strategy. :(

Heirloom Incinerator hurts too. That means Warlord has to pretty much rely on Plunging Shriever for item removal. That makes the Red Light District (http://www.thespoils.com/spoils/showthread.php?t=9096) stronger, because it gets easier to shut down item removal with a single Incriminating Photograph.

It was only today, when the online document suddenly changed (I had it open earlier today) and now it's a completely different puzzle and hence all my work is for naught.

How was I supposed to know that it was going to get updated and thus that I should press Ctrl+F5 yet again?

We do apologize for this. There were a mistake in the original puzzle with one or two missing words. As soon as Patrick discovered the mistake he posted here in the forum and the mistake was immediately corrected. Unfortunately this meant that the word puzzle had to de done from scratch.

If any of you have worked on the old puzzle we are fine with you submitting the solutions based on that puzzle as if they were the corrected puzzle.
You would then only be able to find less words - how many words were in this first version, Patrick?

Also sorry for the trouble with this F5 thing - we have the webguys looking into why this has happened all of a sudden...

OK, I still can see different US letter (which I assume is correct) than A4 (starting with S in upper left corener).
I have found 100, excluding Gnat, 20 each trade, including 16 former Commons 'promoted' to Uncommons.
I will send this but if you exclude me from the contest that would be fine, let the others win! :D

I'm not really in it for the competition. I just want to know which cards are not in so that I can start thinking about making changes to my deck.

Thanks for clearing it up, Michael.
Now I'll just wait for the official list. It's too time consuming to start all over again and it's pointless to work with the old puzzle as I'm interested in which cards will be in/out.

If anybody finds Crooked Appraiser still in, let me know! ^_^

EDIT: The caching issue may well be the result of the "squid", meaning that a file that is accessed often is cached on a server somewhere between spoils.com and the end user (if it's not cached on the spoils.com server that is). It usually takes at least 24 hours for these caches to clear and it's not really anything you can do about it, apart from uploading the correct file in the first place. ^_^

It is probably still the caching problem causing this. Because both files are uploaded correctly. I am somewhat of a web-n00b and I actually wasn't aware that files to be downloaded were also cached.

Try to update using F5 and hopefully that solves it.

Bizze
05-05-2011, 02:25 AM
@Michael: Using Ctrl+F5 makes the browser request the item from the server again, not from the cache. Only using F5 without Ctrl will not help at all.
I've had issues in my line of work where Ctrl+F5 hasn't solved the cache issue, though.

I suspect this is because there is a chain of servers between me (or our customer as usually is the case) and the server hosting the updated file. A ctrl+F5 reload request only reaches the nearest cache server.

This means that even if an end user in the US tries to get the latest content via Ctrl+F5, one or several servers along the way from the spoils.com server have cached the content and will only pass on the version it thinks is the current.

These caches have a set expiry date routine on the content they store, so eventually the first server in the chain discovers that it has an outdated file and requests the newer file from the hosting server (and caches it instead). The subsequent servers does the same as they reach their expiry dates and finally the latest version of the file can be sent to the end user. Badly configured cache servers can make this take a long time, close to 24 hours.

I'm not an expert in server communication, but this is how tech people have explained it to me when we've had problems with our customers not seeing the same thing as we are seeing.

Michael (Arcane Tinmen)
05-05-2011, 03:59 AM
Thanks for the explaining the tech behind caching - now I am little less of a web-n00b :)

Surprised to hear that it works like that - I guess it makes it kinda hard for us to do much besides wait for the caches to expire...?

Bizze
05-05-2011, 04:34 AM
Well, if you change the file name of the word puzzle the file won't be cached anywhere and as long as the users have an updated (or correct) link to it, they will get the new file.

The only potential problem with this is that if the web page linking to the pdf is still cached, it will of course lead to the old file with the old name. However, users will notice this when they click on the link as the name of the pdf in the link they are following will be wrong.

You can always post the direct link on the forums as well, to further prevent this from happening. At least then the forum people will not be affected by the caching.

Michael (Arcane Tinmen)

Nice news
For my part, I started playing The spoils with Seed/Seed2. So i am very interested in the 2nd Edition.
Although I know some "earlier cards" (mainly constructed revevant cards from 1 edition) i used the word puzzels to get familiar with all the cards of the 2nd edition ( because of curiosity and to be prepared for limited ;) )
So i hope we will see new faces in our store.

By the way I hope I find Schproingmajig in the Rare word puzzle:D

Correct me if I missed anything. This is based off of the lists posted here.
The total number of cards not reprinted between commons/uncommons brings the count to 75, so only 10 rares not reprinted? or perhaps cards like schproingmajig and SiN becoming rares?

Strength in Numbers?!?! I hope it's a rare since it was just printed as a promo.

Dear :tm: , if you do not print schproingmajig and make unprinted cards illegal in tournament play then I shall never play the spoils again!

Schproingmajig is one of my favorite cards and my micromajig deck is one of the only reasons I still enjoy playing the game because I think it is such a fun deck to play, it best at least be a rare or have all the cards still legal and just some not reprinted!

Schproing should be reprinted as a rare. It's not overpowered and there should be SOME decks with OTK potential out there, to keep your wits sharp. ^_^

Maybe before threatening to quit, it would be nice to hear their side of the story (or wait for the rare list?)... maybe there's a good reason to rotate Schproing out; something in Pink Harvest perhaps... ;)

yeah, it's about time for the rare puzzle to be listed...

Even if cards are rotated out of tournament legality, you can still play them in casual play. AT obviously encourages casual play since they have EPIC level cards that are only allowed in non-tournament games.

If they take out Schproing, they should take out Strength in Numbers as well, as it is a quicker and more consistant OTK.

They took out Selective Gluttony, so I guess some of the other power cards will go as well.

It doesn't make all that sense though... Selective Gluttony was a good card but not that good (ever had a Quotidian Misfire chained to it?) and it was only used in Writ Bile and Blatherscyhte builds as far as I know. Are they going to limit all current deck designs?

I generally like changes; they make me try harder to find replacements and keep evolving the decks. However, if Gluttony goes, SiN and Research Investment should go as well, and then perhaps Schproing isn't safe either.

I think it's time to DEMAND the rare puzzle!!!! ^_^

Selective Gluttony's potential as an engine in the future is almost unparalleled by any other card. Siphoning through 1/7 of your deck with one card is powerful on its own, but with the inclusion of future Recur cards making the discard pile active, it is only a matter of time before Gluttony gets the ban hammer IMO (regardless of whether or not it remains legal in part two.)

Fine, I understand that. But that means SiN and RI should definitely go. Decks that can win turn 3 must be prioritized over decks that sift through the deck to win later.

In my humble opinion, of course.

Darn! I was hoping to conclude my Selective Gluttony deck and now I notice it has been removed from OP. So it is back to the bat cave and come up with a new deck to play... :(

Bizze

@capdeck: No, you don't have to do that. AT has informed us that there will be no rotation. It may be in the future, but not now.
