View Full Version : Does anyone else think 30 minute rounds aren't long enough?

I was recently at a sealed tournament with about 10 people in it, and every round, at least one match, usually more, went until end of time and had a winner based on life totals. For a brand new game, with new cards that both players still have to read, I don't believe 30 minutes is enough time for each round. Did anyone else notice this at the events they attended?

This has been addressed before. 40 minute rounds with new players is perfectly acceptable.

We are running 40 minute rounds as the standard for all our events. Both the spontaneous and the premier events

Also if there has been no winner after the forty minute round and the three turns of overtime then the game is considered a tie. You don't go to influence.

LOL! Good point Lucien. I read right over that part...
Matches are a draw if no one is at 0 influence after the third turn of "over time".

At Uncle's first "introductory" tournament, we had extended rounds (more than 40 minutes). Although these were good for the purpose of teaching the rules, I find now that 40 minutes is perfect for sealed.

I think it's really up to the tournament organizer (or Judge(s)) to determine if the new to expirienced player ratio is enough to justify more or less time than TG suggests.

Wow. At the tournament I was at, there were 30 minute rounds and no draws. But 40 minutes and draws are much better.

Aww, I wish I knew about this before I lost in the final round to tome out. I was playing a girl who I was trying to help understand the game, while I, myself, had limited information. It came down to time, and I lost by four points.
The game would have went faster if the organizer actually talked to us about the game, before hand, instead of giving us a rule sheet, and starting the tournament before we could understand them completely.

It stinks that you didn't get a great first experience with The Spoils, but now that you know how everything works, I'm sure your next tournament will be fantastic.
One thing though, after time runs out, and the 3 estra turns are over, if one player isn't at 0 life it's a draw. The player with the most Influence left is not the winner.
