I'd like to make two points about these deck lists.
1) Anyone who said that Schrpoingmajig was too overpowered has been officially proven wrong.
2) Holy crap, Humiliating Torture Apparatus is a Tier 1 deck!? The mind boggles. It's boggling right now. Awesome.

just a side note Bin Chen beat Conrad after they decided to split giving Conrad first. Both were great guys and after judging the constructed 2k thursday and seeing that Conrad deserved every point he won this weekend not only based on play but how he was a great guy to talk to. Congrats to all who top 8ed this weekend.

Possibly some DM combo play?

According to Bin, this match was never played as it was late and both players were exhausted.

The final match wasn't played. Bin beat Joe in the top 4, and I beat Hans. We however had already decided to split all the money for the top 4, so the games were just played out to see who would have the points and the official win. Bin didn't care about the points and really didn't want to play as we'd already been playing for 12 hours straight. I gave him $60 ($2 a point) and took the first place points, because I'm at 330 STE points or so and I want to lock up the whole player of the year thing. That's how the end of the 13K went down.

Hey Conrad...Congrats again. I just wanted to say that the game that you and I had in Round 2 was one of the greatest games I have played thus far in my "Spoils Career"
It was very close all the way to the final turn after Time was called and you managed to have just enough of Damage on the table to swing for the win.
I believe I made a slight play mistake on my final turn, I am not sure if it would of made a difference but either way...Great Game.
See you at some point in the future.

What happens if you draw the card or the 31f dies or gets bounced and the Craghammer goes back to your hand? It just seems like kind of a waste. Conrad seems to have done just fine with it :P. I just don't get it.

If that happens then it becomes a resource but the basic idea is when it comes out it is a card your opponent must take care of because if it stays in play it will be either killing characters or be killing you.

Frakkin' Hell! There's an actual PotY race that's never been discussed? Had I known something along those lines was actually in play, I'd have gone to more 5ks and played in more larger events instead of the sideline events.

Hey Dan, thanks for the congrats. I have to say that our game was definatly an awesome one. It was hella-tough. I was pretty sure you had me beat, but somehow I pulled it out on that last turn. I'm not sure if you made any mistakes or not, maybe attacking for the win with the toolbox out. You didn't really want to draw though that early in a 7 round tourney. I pulled a few games out of my butt this weekend. It was some crazy hard Spoils play, and I look forward to more in the future.

Yeah. A Draw that early in the event was something I was not looking for. I had to try, I think against a less talented player I could of pulled off the win if the board and hands were exactly the same. You played that final round perfectly and had just enough of what you needed.
Either way...Great game

It's just a ridiculously hard combo to pull off, and very iffy.

Bernie is so full of crap. Plenty of decks still run him as an alternate win condition (EX: SiN Ball and Extraction/Haze.dec). One-ofs and Two-ofs of schproingmajig are great. He still says, "Deal with me or I win."

I'd like to give a public congrats and nod toward Gabriel P and his deck. Gab is VERY new player to The Spoils - in fact, I remember demoing the game to him less than a month ago, I believe! The deck he choose to play was not by far the first deck he has tossed together and tested, though interestingly it was a creation he came across just before GenCon. I wasn't present for any of the testing, though I did hear claims that it tested well. Personally, I was uncertain of the accuracy of their testing, but in a game as young as The Spoils I try not to place an certainties on anything! This is definately a prime example!
Anyway, great job, Gab and look forward to kicking your butt in the Waco 5K!!

This time I was very impressed with the variety of deck that were in the top 8. Good job guys you tried to orginal with your decks and still have answers to Sproingmajig. What suprised me the most was that there wasn't many decks using sproingmajig. Brad's deck that I saw was the orginal and interesting deck in the top 8. I have played with that deck and it's actually good but doesn't much of a chance against my broken deck as it beats anything. So far with the playtesting of my broken deck I don't see much of a weakness as long as I draw that certain card and use it at the right time.

Yes, it really did.
More often than not I caught opponent's by surprise by hitting them with DM's multiple turns in a row.
Case in point:
I discard the first DM via VA.
He plays the 2nd DM and ruins my hand.
I top deck a Rummaging Milipede and then start to get another foothold.
He DMs again a few turns later.
I top deck a Downsizing for the draw, but I forget he had a Limited Liability.
Kyle Wins.
Julien out of T8 running.
Julien sad.
Julien and Bud drew in Round 7 for T32 each.

UPDATED DECKLIST:
// Resources
14 [STP] Elitism
// Characters
3 [BET] Micromajig Master
3 [1ED] Research Assistant
3 [1ED] Scavengemajig
3 [1E2] Horsemajig of the Apocalypse - Famine
4 [1E2] Senior Research Assistant
4 [1ED] 700160x 31f
4 [1ED] 633fy 31f
4 [1E2] Contriving Engineer
4 [1ED] Basic Node
// Items/Tactics
1 [1ED] Jacque's Trap
1 [1ED] Spiky Atlasphere
1 [1ED] Hidden Sandwich
1 [1ED] Luteoderm Goliath
1 [1E2] Runic Field Enhancer
2 [1ED] Precise Sabotage
3 [1E2] Exploding Sock Puppet!
3 [1ED] Subversion Matrix
4 [1E2] The Whatever Device
4 [BET] One-Legged Hopping Pogo-Bear
4 [1ED] 1337!
4 [1ED] Luteoderm Prototype
This one works pretty solid too. You've got a little bit of wiggle room with Precise Sabotage and one resources. I'd say if you are really hellbent on running Alpha Prime HaXoR then cut (1) Precise Sabotage. Otherwise, I like this version better than the one that I played at Gen-Con. Discommodiousness was really, really bad. Another clever addition would be a copy or two of Dethmurder. Works well with toolbox elf.
Spiky Atlasphere definitely helped in punting me into T8. You build up an army, drop Whatever Device, swing with everybody. Before declaring blockers, you sac the device for (2), search out Atlasphere, trick it onto your weakest guy and BAM. Without the removal inhand it's 'gg'.
Honestly though, I don't deserve credit for this decklist. The real genius behind it all is Joey Date AKA s0b3k. Without having gotten my ass kicked by him on MWS a couple of times, I never would have played it.

The deck looks better right now but I don't think I'm going test play it anymore because I like my Elitism deck better than this. The deck looks solid is very creative and fun to play. My Elitism deck is much faster than this deck because it doen't realiy on a certain card to win the game.

I'm concerned about the 2nd place deck replacing haze in meta once people realize JUST HOW good it actually is. Throw in a couple of cards for tech but keep the core concept and it gets better- and I'd like to know if anyone has any ideas on how to beat it. Because seriously, I haven't found anything at all that has a consistant matchup against it when it gets played right.
JMatthew
09-20-2007, 04:35 PM
Check out the results of the $500 Opening Act at Collectibles Continuum. The second place deck was an adaptation of it and could have gone first. It also performed well enough to split 1st at the next days 5k.
Can anyone describe how to play this type of deck since it seems to be the base for some other decks now?
CodyD1024
09-22-2007, 05:45 AM
It doesn't matter much anymore because almost all of the tournaments are over, besides local meta matchups in invitationals and all. However, it relies heaily on the runic cannon and cheap characters. It abuses the fact that no purple haze deck plays THAT many characters, and most, becuase they are cheap have very few life points.
JMatthew
09-22-2007, 11:26 AM
I believe he means the FTA deck...
Defend at you rapidly deplete your deck to 0 and spew out a ton (20 plus!) resources. Filter in win condition and continued defense with Writ. Draw, use, wash rinse repeat.
That's the skinny of it at least...
Thanks guys,
I meant the FTA deck.
Shawn Reed
09-22-2007, 07:50 PM
The FTA deck:
Resource often, face down cards that you think you don't need in the current matchup. Slow your opponent so much they can't keep up with whatever works from Gold Summit, Shriever Attack, and Humiliating Torture Apparattus to The Ministry of Other Smaller Ministries and Limited Liability. Put out creatures when they threaten your opponent. Writ of Reclamation the best cards back into your deck, roughly 3 at a time, including any other Writ of Reclamations. Use Selective Gluttony, FTA, and Inside Information with Gold Summit (or multiples) to gain massive faction advantage. When you have massive amounts of resources, feel free to Bask Bile, recur Deadly Striker, or Blow Up for the win. Oh, and when you're playing in the top 8, just stall the game out- the winner is the person with the most life. Xo
The deck is perhaps the one deck in The Spoils right now that can truly be called 'control'. It's meant to gain more advantage than your opponent can keep up with. Card advantage, board advantage, faction (life) advantage. And at the least, until Seed comes out, stands in my mind as the best deck in the field right now for consistency (as long as it is played correctly).
La_Sin_Grail
09-22-2007, 08:57 PM
The only way I've found to beat an FTA deck is to
1) Choose you resource, they card as much as logical
2) Play efficiently, planning out if they're choosing to dump resources and having cards to dump and the ability to use the newly placed resources.
3) Use only the cards that are good in that specific matchup
4) Pray for a good draw :P
