Alright guys. We've all seen them. We've probably all participated in them. This is another one of those good ol' fashioned "Create Your Own SPOILS Card" threads. Hell, maybe if we're lucky, a lucky few of our ideas might make print!
Post your ideas~!

Id love to see if TG would take insperation from our ideas, most likely not but they do take part/moniter the forums so you never know...
Sniper Training Grounds
Cost:4(3 rage thresh)
Warlord Location(4 structure)
Cost:Pay 3,Pick a character,deplete the character.
Effect:Put a Sniper Token on the character.Characters with a Sniper Token have:
Cost:Pay 1,deplete this card,pick a character.
Effect:Inflict 1 damage to the character.
Pretty much turn things into hidden sniper. It could get abit broken, but not too much seeing as how it would take a turn for the character to use the effect.Yeah I like pinging characters.

I knew it was only a matter of time before one of these showed up.
I'm going to wait on a good idea, but then I'll put up something decent, instead of just writing about some random card.
Gah it's too early to be up.

looking to the future and dual trade cards i'd love to see:
Shifty Teller
Cost:3(1 Greed 1 Obsession thresh)
Character Life = 2, Speed = 3, Strength = 2
Cost:When Shift Teller comes into play, choose a player.
Effect:That Player draws 2 cards, then discards 1
Covert
i'm not sure if they plan on doing duals like this, but it would certainly be interesting.

I hope they learned their lesson from Dual Regions in Magi Nation...that was the beginning of the end for that great game!
I think the begining of the end of that great game came around Region number 34.
I hope they take advantage of the design space presented by the threshold costs. It would be pretty cool to some some duals.
plmrelm
09-13-2006, 09:42 AM
34? There were only 12 regions, 13 if you counted Universal. Each region had its specific tactics to play. When you started letting several regions do the same thing, then the game got stale.
(Sorry if this seems like a rant, I loved Magi-Nation and still have a complete playset of every card in the game.)

With all the talk about nagi-nation on this site I am getting interested in checking it out. Is it like The Spoils? Is it worth ordering some old cards to see what it was like? Just curious......:spade: Pe4c3!
EndangeredMassa

Saying 34 was obviously an overstatement. I was just making a joke about how they included many different regions. For me, that is what killed the game.
As for this thread, I would still like to see some splashing of the threshold costs.

OOC - Painted Clown - you should definately check it out. The base set is what made the game great, and you can buy boosters for less then $20.00 anymore.
Back to the thread, I stand by my opinion that mixing Duel Threshold would be a bad idea.

I stand by my opinion that mixing Duel Threshold would be a bad idea.
DuAl resource cards would be a great idea and I'd put money down that TG will make them. A well designed set (or whatever limited formats will consist of) with multi-icon/resource requirements is extremely fun. It allows you to do more with the 5 icons, creating cards that have traits from multiple icons while keeping them efficently costed.
Like imagine Ashes of Zenobia if it was mixed with the Bankers, who tend to get drawing even more effeciently.
http://www.thetournamentfaction.com/spoilergallery/albums/uploads/normal_006.jpg
The cost could be something like OOGG 6 or maybe even just OOG.
Multi good. Go play draft with cards that rhyme with Have Me A Block and tell me that format wasn't awesome.

After a quick scan through the pages of this thread, I have come to a saddening conclusion: No one has attempted to create new Faction cards. I would like to correct this oversight.
For reference, let's first examine the only current Faction card.
Name: THE TOURNAMENT FACTION
Type: FACTION
STARTING INFLUENCE - 25
STARTING RESOURCES - Any 2 staple resources.
STARTING DRAW - 8 going first, 9 going second.
RESTORE ABILITY - At the start of your turn, restore all your depleted cards and detach all resources from your faction.
DEVELOP ABILITY - At the start of your turn, pick one of the following: draw a card or play a resource.
DRAW
COST - Pay 3.
EFFECT - Draw a card.
RESOURCE
COST - Pay 4.
EFFECT - Play a resource.
Ok. Now, let's play with it!
Name: Micromajig Nation
Type: FACTION
STARTING INFLUENCE - 20
STARTING RESOURCES - Any 1 staple resource and 1 ELITSM.
STARTING DRAW - 7 going first, 7 going second.
RESTORE ABILITY - At the start of your turn, restore all your depleted cards and detach all resources from your faction.
DEVELOP ABILITY - At the start of your turn, pick one of the following: draw a card or put a Micromajig token into play. (Treat Micromajig tokens as Gearsmith character cards with 1 strength, 1 life, and 3 speed. When it leaves play, remove it from the game.)
DRAW
COST - Pay 3.
EFFECT - Draw a card.
RESOURCE
COST - Pay 2.
EFFECT - Play a resource.
Ukato (a fellow forum-goer) and I love Micromajigs. We've often drooled over the possibility of a Micromajig faction card. So, I decided to make one!
I lowered the Starting Influence to 20. I felt that the abilities listed on the card required that you have a decent drawback.
I played with the Starting Resources as well. Since it is a Micromajig faction card, you must start with at least 1 Elitism in play.
The Starting Draw is where I enforced another drawback-ish. You only get 7 cards to start, but you get those seven going first and second! So, you will always want to go first with this Faction.
The Restore Ability didn't need any attention for this card.
The Develop Ability is where things became interesting. I replaced the "play a resource" choice with "put a Micromajig token into play". To compensate, I changed the cost required to play a resource to 2. It sounds like a huge cut, but this is the only way to get resources into play for this Faction.
Anyway, I'd like to see more Faction cards in this thread.

This faction is interesting, it allows for all the tutoring of tactics you could ask for, but punishes you for trying to get anything else. So, basically, the only way to get non-tactics is to pay the high faction price or tutor for your own card drawing cards.

Really cool, well designed faction, the fact that you do not have the option of drawing each turn is pretty heavy, but you're getting some pretty super bilities in exchange. I don't know, I'd have to play round with it before actually playing it in a serious deck.

HERES a multi-color card for you
Universal Energy Syphon Pump
Cost:5 Threshold:1 Deception,1 Eliteism,1 Greed,1 Obsession,1 Rage.
Arcanist Banker Gearsmith Rogue Warlord Item
Syphon
Cost: Deplete one of your staple resources.
Effect: Activate the following effect that matches the resource you depleted
Deception: Send the top card of your opponents deck to the discard pile.
Eliteism: The next numeric cost you pay this turn costs 1 less.
Greed: Draw 1 card.
Obsession: Pick one non-resource card in play.Put a token on that card.
Rage: Pick a character, location,or faction in play.Deal 1 damage to the chosen card.
I like the idea of a multi colored card but this one I do not think is that good. Its interesting yes but you having to play all 5 factions in one deck and have 1 of each out at the time is just to hard...
Captain "insert cool pirate name here"
Cost: 5DDD
Rogue Character - Pirate
3/3/5
When this card enters play, discard the top 2 cards off your opponents deck.
It is a Pillaging Pirate just on steriods basically. I enhanced his STR and LIFE since he is a captain. Plus I added an extra SPD to make him even more broken. I kept the effect though, anything more than 2 would be unfair.

Yea, would endorse this card if its cost were either 6 with 4 threshold, 7 with 3 threshold, or 5 with 5 threshold.

Yea, would endorse this card if its cost were either 6 with 4 threshold, 7 with 3 threshold, or 5 with 5 threshold.
In Magic, it would definitely have a higher cost, but there are a few reasons I think it should be costed where it is. The primary reason being that there's no max handsize in Spoils. Since the opponent won't be forced to discard it's basically just a board reset for fairly cheap.
Also, there's no real resource destruction to be found.
The primary abuse I can find for the card would be if you had four swarm of gnats in play. Play it at the end of your opponent's turn, then replay the gnats. They just discarded eight cards.
Ouch.
On second thought, it very well might need to cost more.
Brad Meine
11-09-2006, 03:51 PM
Yea, or you drop it at the end of your opponent's turn, restore, and then Ritual of Shattering Teeth or Molestation them? It definently needs to cost a lot. Although, a card like that would make mono-Arcanist viable.

Okay, here's a revised version that I think might be a little more balanced.
Divide by Zero
The last denominator
Cost: 7
Thresh: 5 Obsession
Arcanist Tactic
As an additional cost to play this card,
discard your hand.
Return all non-resource cards in play
to their owner's hands.
"Oh shi-!"
---------------------
The increased cost is for obvious reasons, to keep it from being splashed and to prevent it from being a threat early on.
The discard drawback is to prevent playing Shattering Teeth or GiggityGiggity right after the card is played. That can be circumvented with the almanac, and it's definitely an Arcanist bomb, but I think it's slightly more balanced now. The biggest worry is definitely the Gnats, but I think if you let four gnats on the field you're probably doomed anyway.
Next card from me:
Gaudy Ballroom
This used to be a peasant village...
Cost 3
Thresh: 3 Greed
Structure: X
Banker Location
Cost: When this is played, pick a
value for X.
Effect: Your faction loses X+X influence.
This location's Structure value is X.
All characters lose 1 strength and
1 speed for each token on them.
...too bad they couldn't read the
contracts we made them sign.
---------------------------
The bankers have only one card with tokens (Amortized Straw Man) and he doesn't like them too much. They need something to increase their anti-token flavor. Also I think it would have some hilarious interaction with Dragon Catheter. I made it lose speed and strength because I didn't want it to be instant death for cards like Bipolar Sarcophyle and Thief Doyen.
Token decks definitely still have options if the card comes out. First among them is to just target the Banker player's characters with voidal perversions and the Ecto-manipulator.
Anyway, I think it'd be a fun card.

So I was tired last night...and was thinking about a tri pole getting another tri pole from my discards....dumb. The toy for tots tournament went great! Huge turn out and we raised over two hundred dollars for the kids and have two big boxes of toys for santa! Anyway back to the tri pole magnet idea. So how about a Quad pole magnet that for the cost you have to pull tri poles from your discard three times and remove them from game and when you attach the undecim pole magnet all gear in the game attaches to the character with the quad pole magnet. Quote for the card our nobs go to 11. as a gearsmith beats an arcanist with the knobby staff with an 11 headed staff.

Knightmare, a minor point, but resource cards don't "deplete," they "attach" to the faction card. Also, all of those would seem to do better as items, rather than resources, especially since right now there isn't any resource destruction.

It's like some sort of megaBask. I would drop the token effect and make it something more like "This card has strength equal to the number of non-Deception resources in play under your control."
Or maybe something instead like, "When this character comes into play, flip a coin. If you win, place a token on this card. This card gains 1 Strength and 1 Life for every token on it. Currently there are two factions with dedicated item destruction. They don't need to give it to any other factions unless they intend to dilute the game. There's absolutely no reason that every faction should be able to do every thing.

FromTheShadows
02-07-2007, 06:24 PM
well i'm not sure how to go about this but me and Ryan (turning_of_the_tides) were joking around about a card called Despite All My Rage
Despite All My Rage
"Im still just a rat in a cage
RRRRR
Warlord- Rat
Pay 3 RAGE, Deplete This Card
Deal 2 damage to target faction
3/3/2
I dunno, i kinda came up with it spur of the moment
:chomp: :spade:
Okay i got 1 in mind now but a few modifications.
This is kinda of weird just go with it maybe not even worth it
(heres a few names not even sure on that but which ever works best for the card)
Possible names: "Stand Up Straight!" "Unproper Behabvior" Or "Watch Your Manners" (or somthing else to this effect)
Type: Tactic
Cost: x(pay for in effect)
Faction: (dosent matter rather it be a Gearsmith though)
Effect:(not sure some where in that range)
Reminder Smack:
Cost: Pay Up to 5
Effect: Look through your opponets deck. If anycards (excluding Staple Resources) are not facing the same direction(as in up or down) as the majority of them inflict that much damaged as payed.
Now you can add a few things like a recover cost but not required
This card i know kind if confusing , out-here and almost completly pointless but so is the card Emergency Obfuscation play as a
Effect
While in play both players switch seats and play as each others deck as long as this card remaines in play. the owner of the winning deck wins the game
at start of each turn place 1 token on it
at end of turn if there is atleast 2 tokens on it destory it
i mean common look at that one then tell me mine is out there
a few changes i would like to see would be a cheaper All-nighter
Common spoils makers make it at most 2 or lower i dont want to have to play it just to waste half my recovered resources paying for it,
And i would like to see cheaper cost on the micromajig factory
4 for a none effect 1-1-3 token i mean common atleast a 2. 1 too low but paying 2 for a token would not seem so bad rather than4
well thats all i can think of for now so yeah

When this node is played you must search your deck for a node card and put it in your hand. If you do not put a node card into your hand in this way your opponent may search your deck and, if one exists, choose any node to put into your hand.
When this node is destroyed:
1) All other nodes in play are destroyed and removed from the game.
2) The owner of this nodes faction takes 1 damage for every node destroyed in this way this turn.
3) The owner of this node must show their hand to their opponent, remove every node in their hand from the game, and take 1 damage to their faction for every node removed in this manner.
Sure it's a first round beatstick, but at a cost that balances out the sickness that are nodes.

um, u definetly need to nerf the part where your opponent searches your deck. Sure you want lots of draw backs, but with a draw back like that this guy should be a hasty 6 or 7 strength. If you don't go get a node, which when u have to destroy them all is understandable that you might not wanna find one just to discard, your opponent gets to see your whole deck. That drawback is way too huge.

I like it but the damage seems a little extreme for what it does. It thins the deck I guess and it replaces itself. The thing is that since it doesn't have an icon I would almost rather run four other cards that will be useful. Maybe you could keep it the same or add a clause like "counts as a resource you have in play" or something along those lines.

I like it but the damage seems a little extreme for what it does.
It would be a card to use in decks that don't have to worry about thresholds much, or possibly a Faction that starts with more than 25 Influence. Like you said, it would thin the deck, and also is like a free card draw. Also, remember that with Tax Attorney, the downside is rendered moot.
In retrospect, I agree, though. It's a little too much damage for the effect. Here's a slightly more potent version I thought of:
Slush Fund
Non-Staple Resource
When this card comes into play, you may search your deck for a card called "Slush Fund," reveal it, and put it into your hand.
This card does not detach from your faction during the restore phase.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted a new faction card but I had an idea for one...
The (faction) Faction
Influence - 20
Starting Resources - Any 3 staple resources with the same name.
Starting Draw - 9 going first, 10 going second.
Restore Ability
At the start of your turn, pick one of the following: Restore all your depleted cards or detach all resources from your faction.
Develop Ability
At the start of your turn you may draw a card or play a resource. If you don't your opponents faction loses 1 influence.
Look
Cost - 2
Effect - Look at the top three cards of your deck. You may put those cards on either the top or bottom of your deck in any order.
Resource
Cost - 2
Effect - Play a resource. If you do, attach all resources you control to your faction.
Edit: The look ability allows either all the cards on top or bottom, not a mixture.

Maybe 3 would be a fairer cost, but it seems fairly balanced considering that you can't use the Faction to draw. That's a pretty big downside.

I think you might be right about 3 being a better cost but after a while it makes little difference since you are only limited to essentially once a turn. No draw ability makes up for it though...plus the restore; I think its balanced.
