This came up in a draft pod yesterday...Does this character have to be included in the attacking party for the effect to take place? I.E. Can the controller of this card simply say "I'm attacking" without declaring any creatures, the opponent picks the blockers, and then the attacker chooses
the characters to add to the attacking party? If it works like this, can the attacking player choose not to add a character to the atacking party and just deplete all of the blocking creatures? Any help is appreciated...
Here is the relavant text...
Wyrmfang Deathskull
Rare
7 WWWW
Character - dragon
6/6/3
UNIQUE Wyrmfang
If you attack, your opponent must pick any number of characters they control. Those characters must block during this battle if they can, and only those characters can block.

You have to attack with at least one character, although you do not have to attack with Wyrmfang Deathskull himself. You can't say you're attacking, see how WD's trigger works out, and then not attack or attack with 0 characters.

...Would it then be possible to:
Step 1: Announce you are attacking.
-WD's ability triggers... opponent chooses blockers...
after the ability resolves then move to
Step 2: Choose one, or more non-depleted characters you control to form an attacking party.

That's the idea, yes.

I received a PM on this and wanted to double check-
From the Part 2 FAQ
Wyrmfang Deathskull
• “If you attack” refers to your declaring that you are attacking and picking a faction or location to attack. Wyrmfang Deathskull triggers before you form the attacking party.
So J Caster's point that defenders are declared before any attacker is chosen is correct. Right? Josh/Matt confrim please.

What J Caster said was correct. That's what Wyrmfang Deathskull does - essentially changes the order and makes the opponent declare his blockers first.

I run WD in my Warlord/Gearsmith deck and after reading this thread I better understand how this card works but have a technical question. If I was to "declare an attack" (with Wyrmfang on the field) forcing them to chose a number of blockers and they pick say two, Would I be able to use "Heroic Deed" on his two characters making them unable to block and then swing all out?

unfortunately no
heroic deed can not remove blockers only prevent them from blocking
WF makes your opponent choose blockers... so once they are chosen you can no longer heroic deed them.

This is incorrect.
WF does not make your opponent choose blockers. It sets up a requirement; blockers are chosen at the normal time. If Heroic Deed is then played before blockers are chosen, it will prevent those characters from being able to block.

Yeah, Kallisti is correct, they can choose who to block with, as they must, and then once you declare your attackers (as the second step of attacking), you can play tactics/abilities, and heroic deed his blockers, so that they cannot block.

It's a complex interaction, really. I could have called it wrong just as easily...
