Those are actually the shortest articles among the many to come this week. I believe we have 10 more articles on the way before the end of Sunday. In fact, one is so good and so long, that it will be a 3 part article. Be sure and check back daily for your dosage of The Spoils.

I write a semi-regular strategy article site for another game (Canadien_Bacon (http://thecanadienbacon.blogspot.com/)), and I'm wondering (since this site seems will be more active then TCGplayer is) if you guys take outside articles, or only in house writers?

CovenantTCG
02-26-2007, 10:37 AM
Actually, all the articles that go up this week are from an article contest we held a few weeks ago. We will be having regular article contests and if we like your writing enough, we might give you an 'in-house' position. We'd love to hear from you. We'll be starting our next contest sometime next week. Once again, we'd love to get submissions from you around the article times.

Hey guys its SaintFuse aka Solomon Carlson.

Yeah I knew my article was short, but I wanted to focus on the other aspect of the game itself, the introduction into it.

I hope you enjoyed my little story, it was mainly geared to show how interesting it was without giving you lots of the same information you find throughout the internet.

Thanks again :)

Well, all were asking for a little bit more meat from TeamCovenant (http://teamcovenant.com).com and now you've got it. Day 2 has officially begun, Central time baby! There will be two articles going up today, the first written by La_Sin_Grail himself. It's actually already up. Even the pro's better go check out this Top Secret Deck Tech (http://www.teamcovenant.com).

The other article will be up later today written by the 'King' himself. I hope you guys enjoy this late nite treat. ;) We had a total of 110 total homepage clicks on the first day, let's support the boards greats and shoot for 300 total after day 2! Tell all your friends about the best place on the net to get their The Spoils strategy!

Cool, glad to hear it was both enjoyed and found to be useful.

I must have badly estimated the attention span of internet readers, though - I cut my submission short because I thought it was starting to run a bit long.

Arzakon's article is the first part of a 3 piece article. Hope everyone enjoys.

Again, good articles.

La_Sin_Grail gave some good points on how to play correctly your ressources.

Arkazon, oddly, did not mention turn 0 plays should there be. I'd have played that Quotidian Assasination on that 633fy 3lf on turn 0, not turn 1. Otherwise, I can't wait to read the rest. :o

Ah, someone caught something I missed. I play against a lot of single splash node and forgot that Pogo Bear/633fy combo on the first turn. Depending on the node searched for, that turn 0 play would be good. Even if the tutor was for a basic, it saves 4 damage and the resources equalize. If the tutor was for a hub, or it was a meager research or IGTG combo it would be good for sure.

Hello!

I wanted to say thanks for the articles. If I could make a suggestion. I am sure you'll have a lot of articles talking about the specifics of Spoils but I wouldn't mind some articles that, while dealing with Spoils, also explain the basics at a fundamental level for those of us that are new to card games in general.

Many articles that I've read use terms and assume basic card tactic knowledge that goes right over the heads of those of us that are new to games like this and would be great to have some informative articles from this perspective.

Good point Timmer. Things like tempo, card advantage, field advantage are pretty much basic principles that everyone should know. And with a section specifically for n00bs, I'd say it really has a place.

Gaining the Upper Hand: A Guide to Control
by Thomas "the King of Open Beta" Robinson

Let’s face it, control is on the back burner right now, and for good reason. Warlords swarm the field, Heist Planners erase your sneaky plans, Erotic Assassins and Pogo Bears are “free,” and Nodes just keep coming back for more… Where does it end? It just costs too much to keep everything dead. But that isn’t what control is about, at least not in The Spoils. Control is about...

The Spastic Tentacles combo doesn't work quite as well as the author seems to think it does. If you play Tentacles, you choose which of your own resources to put into your hand, but your opponent chooses which one of their resources to return to their hand. Your opponent would have to be insane or stupid to put a critical, irreplacible resource into their hand where it can fall victim to discard effects. It's difficult to envision a scenario in which you manage to play both Tentacles and a discard effect before their first turn, when they would have no choice but to choose one of their starting resources.

Phlyinice, according to the Covenant site, they'll be letting people know sometime after Pt II is released, which is to say, probably shortly after March 8th.

You make an excellent point, sir. But the idea does rather capture the imagination, no?

Also, I realized an error of my own. Recapitulating Apparition is much, much more effective in combination with Berserker Corps than a Micromajig Factory. Threshold would be a little harder to deal with, but paying one per turn for a two-token sacrifice is a much better deal than paying four for one-token sacrifice.

Looks like I didn't get my alias on my article, but anyway I wrote the article "The Mulligan Factor" so the name associated with that is me, a.k.a kcfin if you would.

Yes, we will notify everyone after the release. As you might guess, things are hectic around here because of the release. Also, these are beginner's articles, they don't have to be terribly spectacular as some of you have expected. Now, once we announce official team members you'll start seeing some spectacular articles.

Anyways, thanks to everyone for your avid support. We are excited about the release of Part II and the development of our team and their site. Also, if you want your name from the boards in your 'about the author' portion, include in in your next submission. (-;

I'll concede that the idea certainly does capture the imagination. However, I sincerely hope that the game never produces a way to reliably implement it. I like the variety of approaches you can take to your resource base, and would hate to see some of those options eliminated because they could be easily disrupted.

I like the Berserker/Apparition plan, though the threshold issue is quite an obstacle. I was thinking the the Berserker's favorite card from Part 2 is probably Micromajig Shipping Container. Master Thief could be fun, too, though a bit pricy. Still, fun stuff.
