Hello fine people at TheSpoils.com,

I printed out some DEMO Open Beta cards and now I'm trying to play the game with my son for the first time.

We both have laid down 2 stable resource cards at the beginning of our turn according to the Tournament Faction card. We play whatever cards we can from our hand and then end our turn.

Here is our problem. At the beginning of turn 2, according to our Faction card, it says "Pay 3 to draw a card" or "Pay 4 to play a resource". Well, we only have 2 resource cards in play from turn 1. How can we pay 3 to draw a card or pay 4 to play a resource when we only have 2 resource cards on the table? We have resource cards in our hands but we can't play them because we need to pay 4 resource cards to bring a resource card in play right?

Can somebody clarify this please?

Thanks,
TubBelly

Your Faction Card should also have a Develop Ability, which is a seperate ability from your Draw ability or Resource ability. At the beginning of each turn you get to either play a resource or draw a card. You don't get to do both for free, but always one of the two.

At the beginning of your first turn you'll have a few resources in hand and several cards, some costing over 2. Usually you chose to play a free resource instead of drawing a card. Then you can play a card costing 3 on your first turn, assuming you've got the right resource icons out.

To further clarify, the Draw and Resource abilities are like abilities on a character or item. You can play them whenever you could normally play abilities, as long as you can pay the cost. They are seperate abilities from the once per beginning of your turn Develop Ability that you can choose to play at different times besides the beginning of your turn.

So say you have no cards costing 2 or 3 to begin with. Well you could play a resource from your hand at the beginning of your first turn and then pass the turn, then when your opponent is done with his or her first turn, you can respond to that turn ending by playing your Draw ability with the 3 resources you have in play. You still get to draw a card then even though at the beginning of your second turn you might choose to play a 4th resource rather than draw a card. So now you'll have 4 resources and can probably starting playing cards. Even if you can't you can pay 4 to play a fifth resource so you can play something for 5 or even 6 next turn, assuming you've got that many resources in hand and your chose to play a resource again at the beginning of your third turn.

LOL!!! Sometimes I wish I were that tall! I'll have to look at the pic again to see if I can see that perspective. I'm a purely average 5'8". :D
