View Full Version : Starter Deck Worth getting?

I was hoping of getting into this game and I had a few questions...
Is the starter deck worth getting and is there a spoiler for it?
If not, are booster packs or singles the better route to go?
The reason I am asking is that I have a limited budget.

The starter deck is well worth it a perfect place to start. You'll need the starter deck or a couple of the pre constructed ones to get the recource cards at least.

I concur. The starter deck and a couple of boosters will get you set up fairly nicely if you want to get a good overlook of the availible cards.
At the same time if you looking to play right off the bat, the pre-cons are actually pretty well built and lots of fun without modification.
Here's the list of whats in the Pre-Constructs

Am I allowed to do self advertising? Yes? Why thank you. First off, I highly recommend getting the starter decks. They'll get you set up with a good number of playable cards right off the bat, unlike the ones for some other games which seem to do their utmost to find the worst possible on theme cards...
alright, I'm shutting up about other games now.
In any case if you want to make a playable, not tournament winning mind you, but playable, deck using your starter deck and some packs (You'll almost definitely need to trade for some of the cards, but though the author seems to expect you to find a good number of commons somehow along with a decent number of uncommons he hasn't suggested any rares) I'd recommend looking at the articles on tcgplayer.com. The series of articles is called 'Playing with Pre-Cons.' Personally it looked like the Gearsmith one was the most playable at the end of the article, but you'd need a larger number of cards to make it too.

Having read said articles, and knowing the author, I'd also suggest them. I love the precons, they get people into the games quite easily, and two of them plus a minor working knowledge of the game can become a working constructed deck. Not necissarily tournament class, but enough to learn the game.

It depends on how much you want to invest into the game. If $100+ is not a big deal I would suggest getting 4 booster boxes and going from there. If you are looking to invest less than that then the starter boxers are a fantastic value and a great place how to learn Spoils.

Two precons will give you a deck and an idea of how those two trades play. Whether you are going to be competitive or not you should still start out with the precons. If you are going to get serious I strongly suggest getting one of each of the precons. They are nice boxes to hold your singles in. They have all the resources you will need. They are playable decks to learn the game with. They have some very useful cards all around. The only suspect precon is the rogue one, but it isn't too bad.
