Can you control characters that you don't have the threshhold for?

For example you play Forced Recruitment to grab a Beatrix Winterbottom as it is played, but you have no Greed resources. Are you still able to keep Beatrix Winterbottom or do you have to try and control only characters you have the resource threshold for?

You need to meet the threshold requirements for a card when you play it. When you gain control or put into play, you do not.
