Feels like the intention is to save your primary guy and sacrifice a nothing.
If that's correct it should say "Pick a character you control. Pick a different character you control."
If it is intended to save your guy and kill theirs, wording still needs to be updated to say "Pick a character. Pick a different character." That will establish first and second characters.

Although, it seems like it could potentially be pretty strong. You could pick a 1 life character and then a big character, ping the little guy and you get a big guy kill off of it.

Is it really necessary to say pick a different character instead of "pick two characters you control"?? The effect clarifies how the card works. Several other cards currently in The Spoils are worded similarly.

Ah, you're right.
I was thinking there's a warlord tactic that distinguishes characters picks (Manful Skirmish). It does separate it in the effects though, not the cost. So then yeah leave it as Pick 2 characters you control. Seems I was trying to overcomplicate things.
